After a number of iterations analysing and redrawing features for the Route Line, the results calculated are shown in the map canvas below. There are in places two options for routing fibre, typically offering an Under_Road crossing in preference to a Pole_2_Pole crossing, although some routes have used Poles to route the fibre.
Generating this Route Line is the 2nd stage of the design process. Stage 3 requires the siting of an Optical Line Terminal (OLT), which will in the first instance be positioned on the Route Line in the vicinity of Hindley Hall, where an existing internet connection exists. Stage 4 determines costs and generates a Cost Line and Splitter details based on demand, the reports generate an inventory of equipment required.
Clicking on a feature will display its key attributes, and for simplified viewing, layers can be turned off in the Legend (icon screen right).
This is a Pilot in several senses, the network design and built is being piloted and web hosting of results is a pilot. In future Cloud/Web based hosting will be used to share maps with mobile technology, securely.
Observing Google’s aerial imagery revealed several building sites, two dwellings and possibly a third (based on a drawing in the planning application checked on the Northumberland CC Planning website). These sites are based in Whittonstall, behind the Anchor Inn, they have been added to the original Airnexus demand layer used to generate this Route Line.
Note: The qgis plugin ‘qgis2web’ is a useful for simple layouts, but doesn’t always render styles as specified. For example ‘blue circles’ denote ‘Roadside Assets’ of several different classes. Press F5 to re-centre the map.
