Aerial Image Interpretation (WMS served), digitising and classification of residential and commercial buildings across towns and cities of the United Kingdom. Creating a spatial data layer defining age, type, size and construction of residential and non-residential buildings. The work includes image interpretation, data QA and cleansing prior to delivery. Using the OpenSource industry standard application, QGIS.

Self-Employed. Freespirit Adventure Motorcycle Tours, Kathmandu, Nepal. 2005 – 2016

Touring the sub-continent, opportunities for operating motorcycle tours to remote and beautiful regions of the sub-continent were developed, leading to valuable experience…

  • Registering and operating a business as a foreigner in India & Nepal.

  • Public liability and client insurance requirements for adventure motorcycle tours.

  • International e-commerce, e-transactions from clients and disbursing to suppliers.

  • Developed/built Joomla webs for Freespirit (client extranet), social media marketing, promotions and sales.

  • Tour planning, fleet management, support logistics, risk assessment and client safety.

  • Average tour size 8 riders. Annual turnovers in excess of £100k.

  • April 2015 earthquake stopped play – returned to UK to pursue a career in GIS.

Self-Employed. Presslake Computer Training, Stamford, Lincolnshire, England. 1991 – 2003

Following county-wide market research, revealing a gap in IT skills training, Presslake Computer Training was created to train office staff across a wide range of businesses. Responsive to market needs, IT skills and experience were deployed in industries across Lincs, Cambs and Northants.

  • Developed/delivered IT courses at all levels on Microsoft applications.

  • Writing courses for client’s proprietary apps and company intranet (Hotpoint).

  • 2001 established an IT training suite in the Castle Hill Language School, Stamford.

  • Clients included, Hotpoint, Perkins Engines, Peterborough Telegraph, Northern Foods.

Direct Marketing Database Manager. Barclays Financial Services, London, EC2. 1990 – 1991

Reporting to the marketing director & managing two staff. Work included database management; liaising with marketing campaign managers; training of staff on project planning software; technical support and training of IT applications throughout the marketing department.

Total Quality Management Analyst. American life Insurance Co. Croydon, England. 1987 – 1990

Hired after completing an MSc at Cranfield as a Total Quality Management Analyst, reporting to the operations director. Responsibility included workflow analysis and improvement, automation of insurance claim systems, reducing claim response times and work backlogs; implementing a culture of team building, IT and telephone technique training programmes.

GROUP PROJECT: In the role of GIS Consultant for clients in Europe’s AGForward European Agro-Forestry Project, personal involvement included the selection and digital habitat mapping of 1 km. square test sites across the Brecklands region of East Anglia. A land cover analysis, based on field trips and OS MasterMap data, delivering reclassified shape files according to AGForward’s habitat codes.

INDIVIDUAL THESIS: Sponsored by precision farmers G’s Growers Ltd., the work tested the sensitivity and accuracy of algorithms designed to count and size Iceberg lettuces in near infrared and NDVI aerial imagery. In conclusion the results delivered key performance indicators at a 95% confidence level for the projected numbers.

Organised fund raising for rice and tents after the April 2015 earthquake in Nepal, managing teams of volunteers delivering relief supplies into the affected mountainous areas. Before leaving Nepal, set in motion ‘The Jiri Build Project’ to teach villagers how to build model earth-bag houses.

Out of the Office

Keen interest in global current affairs, maintaining a lively correspondence with family and friends across the world. R&R activities include cycling, tennis and trekking. Resting glider pilot. Avid reader.
